About Zhejiang Province

Zhejiang Province is located in the south of the Yangtze River Delta on the southeastern coast of China, bordering the East China Sea to the east, Fujian Province to the south, Jiangxi and Anhui Provinces to the west, and Shanghai and Jiangsu Province to the north. The Qiantang River, the longest river in the province, is also called “Zhijiang” or “Zhejiang” because of its twists and turns. Zhejiang Province, called “zhe” briefly, was named after this river, with Hangzhou as the provincial capital.
Natural scenery and humanities landscapes complement each other in Zhejiang. Hangzhou was the venue for the 2016 G20 Summit, boasting a unique charm of the integration of history and reality. There are numerous scenic spots of historic interests all over the province with the West Lake in Hangzhou as the center, including 22 national scenic spots, 4 national tourist resorts, 10 national nature reserves, 30 national garden cities, 11 national wetland parks, 39 national forest parks, and 5 national urban wetland parks. There are 9 national historical and cultural cities in the province, including Hangzhou, Ningbo, Shaoxing, Quzhou, Jinhua, Linhai, Jiaxing, Huzhou, and Wenzhou, 20 China historical and cultural townships, and 28 China historical and cultural villages. The total number of famous townships and villages ranks No. 1 in the country. Zhejiang ranked first in the country in the number of selected items included in each of the four batches of national intangible cultural heritage lists announced by the State Council, with a total number of 217 selected items. The West Lake in Hangzhou, the Zhejiang section of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and the East Zhejiang Canal were selected as world cultural heritages. Jianglang Mountain was selected as a world natural heritage. There are 27 excellent tourism cities in China. Zhejiang is very rich in tourism resources. Natural scenery and humanities landscapes complement each other. There are more than 800 important landform landscapes, more than 200 water landscapes, more than 100 biological landscapes, and more than 100 cultural landscapes in the province. There are more than 450 major island scenic spots available for tourism development. There are 22 national scenic spots, 4 national tourist resorts, and 197 high-level scenic spots above the 4A level, ranking first and second in the country respectively. Among them, the national 5A-level tourist attractions include West Lake in Hangzhou, Qiandao Lake, Putuo Mountain, Yandang Mountain, Wuzhen Ancient Town, Xikou-Tengtou in Fenghua, Hengdian Film and Television City in Dongyang, Xixi Wetland, South Lake in Jiaxing, Lu Xun’s Former Residence and Shenyuan Scenic Spot in Shaoxing, Root Palace Buddhist Country in Kaihua, Nanxun Ancient Town, Tiantai Mountain, Shenxian Residence, etc. 14.
