The Teacher of TCZJ Won the Gold Medal in the 26th IKA Culinary Olympics

“China, Yan Han, Gold medal ..."On February 5, 2024, there were thunderous cheers in the award hall of the 26th IKA Culinary Olympics held in Stuttgart, Germany. Top culinary masters from the world gave the applause to Yan Han, a teacher of Tourism College of Zhejiang in China. In the individual event of Culinary Art, our teacher Yan Han won the gold medal with the second total score (16 gold medals were competed by 92 contestants), showing the strength of Chinese western culinary arts on the world stage.

In the Culinary Art competition, each contestant was required to prepare and present a set of finger meals and five courses (two starters, one soup, one main course, and one dessert). Yan Han conquered the judges and the competitors with a group of works called “Welcoming the New Year”, and everyone expressed his praise to Mr. Yan. In his comments, the chief judge of the event used “I Like” for many times around Yan Han’s winning works." He gave high praise for the ingredient collocation, color application, technique display and other aspects."

With the theme of Chinese Spring Festival, the works incorporate a large number of Chinese characteristic food materials and cooking techniques, presenting the long history and culture of China as well as extensive and profound culinary arts from inside to outside, such as the joyous god of wealth on the exhibition stand, the menu for the Year of the Dragon, dessert in the shape of lantern, chocolate decoration in the shape of red packet, etc.

The IKA Culinary Olympics, which began in 1900 and is held every four years, is one of the three top world's professional culinary competitions certified by the World Association of Chefs Societies. The competition was organized by the German Chefs Association (VKD), with more than 1,200 participants from 55 countries and regions around the world. The significance of Yan Han's winning the gold medal in the competition is extraordinary. As early as four years ago, when he was a student at TCZJ, he was qualified for the competition by his brilliant competition results. Now he has become a Chinese national technical expert and competed in Germany as a teacher of TCZJ. He finally completed long-cherished wish. He showed the world the exquisite level of Chinese cooks in western cooking skills, and enhanced the influence of TCZJ in world’s professional culinary education.
